Provide assistance in the planning, development and
implementation of hospital-and health system-based
palliative care programs
Facilitate collaboration among hospitals, hospices
and nursing home providers of palliative care as well as the
national organizations that represent these constituencies
Encourage development of new mechanisms for financing
palliative care services
Organize and promote access to professional education
opportunities in palliative care for physicians, nurses,
hospital executives and other team members
Collect and disseminate information and data on
national trends in palliative care practice and delivery
Promote consensus on appropriate norms to measure the
quality and performance of palliative care practice and
programs
Foster innovation and stimulate interest in
palliative care
